New Revelations from Prince Harry's Book
UK Newspapers Have Received Advanced Copies; The Book Is On Sale Early In Spain
Another day, another batch of drama from Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex.
Late Wednesday evening it was revealed that UK newspaper The Guardian had received an advanced copy of the book, and they released an excerpt from the book. However, on Thursday (January 5, 2023) morning, the book also went on sale in Spain. No one is quite sure why it went on sale early in Spain, other suspecting that perhaps it was done to get some extra sales ahead of Epiphany Day (which is a major gift giving holiday), as only the Spanish-language version was available in Spain and orders for English copies were still relegated to pre-order.
UK tabloid The Sun received a copy of the book, and we were off to the races with excerpts coming out pretty much all day long.
In the most recent release of information, we’ve heard that:
William and Harry had a physical altercation when William went to Nottingham Cottage to speak with Harry about Meghan’s “difficult, rude, and abrasive” behavior.
Harry seems to confirm that Meghan did, in fact, insult Catherine and make her cry in the lead-up to their wedding but insists that she didn’t think she did anything wrong or to warrant being “reprimanded” for her behavior.
Harry has released private details of conversations between himself and his father, wherein his father “begged” him not to make his “final years” miserable. Harry also received private details about Charles’s difficult childhood when he suffered from extreme bullying at school.
In Harry’s estimation, Camilla was leaking to the press about her relationship with Charles and was on a campaign to “get the crown.”
In my estimation, none of this information makes Harry look good or justified in his actions. We’ll take the first two point by point:
William and Harry’s Physical Altercation
I’ll start by saying that violence is wrong. Period. If William did, in fact, put his hands on his brother that’s incredibly inappropriate.
However - they are brothers. I have 2 sons - they’re 2.5 and 5 years old and they already get into little physical tiffs. And for William to have been that upset with Harry that it led to a physical altercation, we can assume that it wasn’t over a small matter.
Interestingly, Harry never says what HE said during the entire thing - other than telling his brother he didn’t want to talk to him when he (William) was so upset. He glosses over the specifics of what happened before the fight and what was said by Harry during it and only focuses on William’s reaction. He does mention at another point in the book that he and Meghan got into an argument and be “snapped” and was yelling at her and saying horrible things so it seems likely that he could have done similar with his brother.
I would also like to point out that Harry says he called his therapist “immediately” after this happened. But by his own admission during the Oprah interview he apparently wasn’t able to do the same when his wife said she was suicidal.
Meghan Made Catherine Cry
Okay to be fair, from what I’ve seen Harry never says his wife made his sister-in-law cry. What he says is that there was a discussion about Princess Charlotte’s bridesmaids dress not fitting and that Meghan told Catherine she must have “baby brain” and be hormonal (at this stage Prince Louis was about 2-3 weeks old).
Here’s how I’m piecing this together based on the various excerpts from the book that are floating around:
Charlotte tried on the dress (and cried) and it was a disaster. Catherine reached out to Meghan to let her know the problem and was like “hey listen, this dress is a mess - I spoke with Sarah Burton (designer at Alexander McQueen who made Catherine’s wedding dress and is one of her go-to designers) and she agrees and it probably needs to be remade.”
Meghan flipped out and started insulting Catherine and saying she had “baby brain” and must be hormonal.
Catherine then cried but ultimately took Charlotte to get the dress altered (not remade). Catherine also told William about the situation.
Meghan also cried and Harry found her (very dramatically 🙄) on the floor. She was probably crying because she was stressed thinking that all of the bridesmaids dresses were horrible and she felt that Catherine was being difficult (something we’ve never heard about Catherine in 2 decades but we’ve heard lots about Meghan).
William then told Meghan to cut it out and reprimanded her, which she found offensive.
This all happened in the lead up to the physical altercation (albeit months before).
My Assessment
Overall, in my opinion, none of this makes Harry look good. Sure some of it is embarrassing for his family (I’m sure William isn’t proud of the fact that he put his hands on his brother, for example) but Harry comes out of this looking vindictive, petulant, contradictory, and immature. He’s published a 550 page book for the sole purpose of hurting and embarrassing his family.
He said in the trailer for one of his upcoming interviews that he wants his father and brother back but I feel that this book is likely the nail in the coffin. He’s spilled decades of secrets about his family - including secrets that weren’t his to tell (his father’s school story, for example) - and has proven that there’s nothing he won’t say or do against his family to cash in.
What do you think? I’m opening a chat so let me know there!
